The Only Way:  Christ vs. Other Religions

Coming to know Jesus Christ as savior and Lord brings a wonderful freedom. We then know that we are saved; not because we have attained some great spiritual insight through great effort—but because God’s own Son paid our debt of sin in full with His own blood. This brings the great peace, and “rest for our souls” that we read of in the Bible (John 16:33, Matthew 11:28-30).

Today, however, Satan is more deceitful than ever (he’s had 6,000 years of practice!). Believers may rejoice in their salvation, but never really understand its uniqueness; why Jesus is the only way to be eternally saved (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). Especially here in my local area, professing Christians have virtually no education in the ways of other “faiths.”

We will be more effective ministers for Jesus, and avoid deception more readily, if we can understand some fundamentals of other religions, seeing where they fall short. This article is meant to give an overview of some of the beliefs we may encounter. Certain of these are quite similar, so please bear with me if I seem to be repeating things. I also realize that most of us will only encounter a handful of these diverse religions, and it is well to focus on the ones most pertaining to your own situation. It may be somewhat lengthy, and not very exciting! But I pray that the Lord will quicken this information into application and enhancement in your spiritual lives.

This list of various “faiths” is in no way a complete one. Yet all the major faiths are addressed, and any unmentioned ones are likely derivatives of them. I have found that many individuals craft their own beliefs, with elements of various beliefs fused together to suit their own take on things.

Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes. Deuteronomy 12:8

The true followers of Christ will already be aware of the important Biblical doctrines which we follow. Along the way, however, I will often hold up the false teaching to the light from God’s Word. The beliefs looked into are in alphabetical order only, not listed with a particular sense of priority.

Agnostic:  This term is used for individuals who are uncertain whether or not God exists. Doubt is most likely caused from viewing the great evils in this world, and especially from those brought about by various “faiths.” A true agnostic is one who believes it impossible to know if there is a God—therefore they do not try.

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans 1:19,20

Animism:  Animists believe in many gods, which may be found in any living organism, but also even in rocks and such. Some believe in a supreme god who is above the rest, but do not think that this being interacts with us or cares. Animists believe that our actions are directed by all these various “spirits” or “gods.” In other words, no free will. Animists will pray to deceased loved ones, and typically use shamans and witch doctors for help or protections. Information found in KidsofCourage.com.

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Hebrews 2:17,18

Atheist:  An atheist simply does not believe in God or gods by any name. They are therefore free to follow all of their own whims, thinking that after physical death there is no spiritual judgment. “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.”—from Psalms 14:1

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Romans 14:12

Buddhism:  Traditional Buddhists do not believe in a personal God. They do believe in reincarnation; that is, that we each have lived many lives before, and more will follow. We will continue to be shaped by the unseen moral laws of karma, and must strive to reach Nirvana; which is a perfect state of being. This will be achieved by meditation, self-denial, and “right” behavior. A state of Nirvana will bring a complete separation from, and an unawareness of the pain of the world around us. But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8,9

I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. John 17:15

Catholicism:  Please see our Catholic Faith section for more. Catholics refer to themselves as “Christian,” but in reality do not follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the Bible. The doctrines of the Catholic Church supersede the Bible, so the Catholic Catechism is more important.

Catholics believe in a possible salvation by good works; but to proclaim assured salvation is a sin. In the mass, the consecrated elements of bread and wine are considered to literally become the body and blood of Christ; and must be worshipped (idolatry).

Purgatory is a Catholic invention, found nowhere in the Bible. It is said to be a place of intermediate punishment for those who eventually will be saved, once they have “atoned” for remaining sins by suffering.

In reality, Catholicism is Baal worship (sun god) with important names/terms from Christian tradition replacing the more obvious pagan ones.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. I Corinthians 11:25,26

Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, Deuteronomy 5:8,9

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Hebrews 9:24-28

Christian Science:  Believes that there is no sin, sickness, or death; they are just states of mind. Claims that all people are united in the spirit of God, and that everything we see or experience (the senses) are unreal. Therefore Heaven and Hell also do not really exist, but are states of mind. Mankind simply needs to realize and accept his “oneness” with God. God is referred to as “Father-Mother,” and there are no ordained clergy. Jesus Christ is acknowledged to be God’s son, but not actually God. The Comforter (Holy Spirit) is renamed as “Divine Science.” Therefore they do not accept belief in the doctrine of the trinity; of Heavenly Father, Son, and Holy Ghost being one. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. I John 5:7

Confucianism:  Really more of a philosophy, than a faith. Confucius believed in Heaven, but regarded it as “a positive and personal force” in the universe. He believed much in human character, and believed in man’s ability to perfect himself (perceptions, behavior). Information from ReligionFacts.com.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Romans 3:10-12

Druids:  Limited information is available about the original, ancient religion of the druids (British Isles). In fact, it seems that they thought written documentation was spiritually belittling. The Druids believed in many gods, and the earth and nature as divine. This would include the heavens, along with astrology. Druids sought to be one with the world around them.

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Psalms 138:2

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; I Timothy 2:5

Evolutionists:  Contrary to common perception, evolution is a religion—which poses as science. Evolution attempts to explain away God and creation by theorizing a possible way everything could have come into existence without Him. Science has actually disproven evolution in hundreds of ways, yet still the lie persists.

Having been persuaded by the lie, there are some professing believers who try to incorporate evolution into their Christian faith. Some say God created, then we evolved. Some say “creation” took billions of years, instead of the six days related to us in the Bible. Yet there is no way to accept evolution without contradicting scripture and scientific observation. You can find great information at Evolution-Facts.org.

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:11

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans 1:22,23

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Colossians 1:16,17

Hinduism/Hare Krishna:  These two are listed together due to their close relationship. Hare Krishna is a branch of Hindu, who follow the Indian sacred texts called Vedas. Both “faiths” believe that man is ultimately part of God, yet temporarily separated in this evil age. As a result, “God” has not one name, but many. These are beings that have transcended the current evil age, and re-attained their full equality with God. Some principle gods are Shiva, Vishnu, or Shakti.

The individual souls are reincarnated at death, and the law of Karma determines destiny and events. Both Hindu and Hare Krishna seek perfection through an ethically pure life and meditation. “Hare” and “Krishna” are supposedly two of God’s names, and ritual chanting will help bring you closer to a favorable eternal destiny. From ReligionFacts.com.

Note:  Some who espouse reincarnation suffer from starvation or malnutrition. There is respect for an animal who is considered a reincarnated soul, and they will not be killed for food.

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? Ecclesiastes 3:21

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6:7

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:5-7

Humanism:  Humanists believe that evolution is responsible for the existence of everything. There is no God as creator, and they feel that religion inhibits mankind from its full potential. Man is his own god, a byproduct of naturally occurring phenomena. Information from ContenderMinistries.org.

Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes. Deuteronomy 12:8

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Romans 1:28

Islam:  Belief in one God, Allah (not a trinity). Muhammad is the prophet of Allah, and Jesus is also accepted as a great prophet. There is not equality in Islam for women, or those of other faiths. Good works are emphasized, but a perfectly “good” Muslim has no assurance of paradise (Heaven). Allah is a whimsical god, whose actions cannot be predicted based on a person’s behavior.

Islam teaches that the only sure way of “salvation” lies in waging holy war (jihad) to spread the “faith.” Anyone rejecting Islamic beliefs can be rightly killed; this makes Islam a religion of fear—those who want to leave it know that they risk their own lives to do so. Yet Islam contains within itself differing factions. These factions are also violent toward each other at times, fighting long wars. The main two factions that you will hear of are the Sunnis and the Shiites; the Sunnis are the largest. The Sunnis follow Muslim leadership through elected leaders called caliphs. The Shiites follow a line of succession from the bloodline of their founding prophet, Muhammad, for their leaders.

Supposedly the angel Gabriel dictated the rules for Islam to Muhammad, found in the Quran and Hadith. Of course, no Muslim ever saw “Gabriel” but Muhammad! And the rules given to him were directly profitable for his own life. The great resource I have mostly used is Christ, Muhammed and I by Mohammad Al Ghazoli. You can find it at Chick.com.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 5:44

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. John 5:16,17

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. John 18:36

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. I Peter 3:7

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. I John 5:13

Jehovah’s Witnesses:  The Watchtower Society is the presiding authority for the Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW). The Watchtower claims that God speaks through it, and no other source. God continually adds more to His Word each month through Watchtower Magazine.

JW’s are saved by their own works. Only 144,000 will receive true salvation, while some of those “good enough” will be servants of the 144,000. All non-believers will be annihilated (no Hell).

JW’s deny the trinity, but proclaim Jehovah as God. Jesus was an earthly form of the archangel Michael, and his earthly body was never raised from the dead. False prophecies have raged throughout the history of the JW’s, primarily in regard to the return of Christ. Ultimately these failed prophecies were covered by declaring that Christ had returned “in spirit.” The good resource used here is the book Cult Watch, by John Ankerberg and John Weldon.

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: Revelation 22:18,19

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Luke 24:4-7

After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; Revelation 7:9

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. Deuteronomy 18:20-22

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Revelation 1:7

Judaism (Jewish faith):  Much of the Jewish faith can still be learned from the Bible. Jews still wait for the messiah, having rejected Jesus Christ. They hold to traditions and works, in hope of salvation. In the centuries following Jesus’ time here in the flesh, the Jews added more authoritative written works to the traditional Old Testament; such as the Talmud and Cabbala. Those additions logically follow the rejection of Christ; to explain away why their messiah did not appear at the time prophesied!

The Jews regard themselves as God’s chosen people. Unfortunately, many Christians regard them as such, as well. We know that, Biblically, God’s “favor” for them was based on obedience. As a people or nation (Israel), they have been rejected by God. Individual Jews may still come to Christ on their own to receive salvation. For more about this, please see our section The Israel of God.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. Galatians 3:7

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Galatians 5:4

Messianic Jews:  These hold fast to most traditions and observances of traditional Jewish faith, but they recognize and accept Jesus Christ as the messiah. Praise the Lord!

And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:15-27

Masonry (or Freemasonry):  The Masons are a secret society which poses as a civic organization for the general public, and to its lower degree members. All secret, “benevolent” societies (like Elk Lodge, Moose Lodge, etc.) are really affiliates of Masonry.

Masons are actively involved in politics; conditioning the world for the advent of world government. Spiritually, salvation comes by good works. Every “faith” is considered a viable path to God. Early degrees declare the Masons’ God to be the Great Architect of the Universe (GAOTU); later, they ascribe to “God” the name Jabulon; which is a composite name from several gods, showing their “ecumenical” side. Only the very highest degrees are informed that the true Masonic God is Lucifer.

To join the lodge, oaths and rituals are practiced which blatantly deny Jesus Christ. All initiates must declare that “they have long been in darkness” and now seek to come into the light (of Masonry). How can a born again Christian say they are in darkness? I have read many informative books on Masonry, including; Cult Watch, Masonry:  Beyond the Light, Architects of Deception, and En Route to Global Occupation. Chick.com and EAEC.org provide resources on Masonry.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Ephesians 5:8

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matthew 12:37

Mormonism:  Many times Mormonism tends to be confused with Christian faith, often due to the similar terminologies used. Yet Mormonism steadfastly condemns true Christian faith as apostasy. They believe God can save only through the Mormon Church.

Mormons believe that Christ is a created being. Our Lord’s atoning sacrifice cleansed us of original sin only, so that now each person is able to earn their own salvation through good works. “Salvation” for the Mormon ultimately means a promotion to godhood (Jesus also earned his godhood by an obedient life). Salvation is also still possible after dying.

Therefore the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are accepted as three primary gods—not three persons in one God. Jesus was also said to be produced by sexual intercourse between God (named Elohim) and Mary (no virgin birth).

Joseph Smith is the founder of Mormonism; basing his “revelation” on a supposedly unmentioned tribe of Israel called Nephites. This tribe had migrated to the Americas before Christ came to earth, and left their history written on golden tablets in the language of “reformed Egyptian.” Of course, Joseph Smith (1805-1844) alone had these visions. There are no tablets, no such tribe of Israel as “Nephites,” and no such language as “reformed Egyptian.”

The Mormon Church is also referred to as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Information used is found in the book Cult Watch; by John Ankerberg and John Weldon.

Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God. Isaiah 43:10-12

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:20-23

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. I Thessalonians 5:21

Native American Indian:  This is, of course, a very diverse group. The Aztecs & Mayans were early civilizations encountered by the Spanish; these religions were quite similar. Both promoted human sacrifice as an appeasement for the gods, which were many. The sun god was the most prominent deity, and other gods were related to natural elements/animals. For the Mayans, the sun god was father, and the moon god was mother. They also believed that the gods had created and destroyed the earth several times. Aztecs listed 9 levels of Hell, and 13 levels of Heaven. It was also not how one lived that determined the soul’s destiny, but how one died. Warriors dying in battle were rewarded with Heaven. Info from Aztec-History.net, and Ezinearticles.com.

In North America, the Cherokee religion was quite similar to true Christian faith. They served one God, and would not bow in worship to any person or idol. Heaven and Hell were real to them, and personal conduct (morals-ethics) was the determiner of eternal destiny; all this according to a James Adair, who lived among them in the 1700’s, speaking their language. See AllNativePeople.com.

The Sioux believed they had to worship many spirits which existed in natural things. The sun, earth, sky, mountains, and animals all were “spiritual.” One Great Spirit controls all the others; and it is to him that all go after death. The Sioux believed in the vision quest, in which each individual sought their own guiding spirit—which would be an animal. The existence of the Sioux revolved around the buffalo, which was their main food, and the source of clothing and shelter.

Iroquois Indians believed in the Great Spirit; and his “brother” was named Evil Minded. These ruled over lesser spirits which were represented in nature. Good works were important for the soul’s destiny; but they believed mankind too insignificant to understand God’s plans, or to be used in making changes for Him.

Apache Indians lived in the southwestern United States (Arizona-New Mexico-Texas). For them, faith was mostly an individual pursuit. They believed in spiritual powers existed in the world all around them, and relied mostly on Shamans to provide an intercessory knowledge of the spirit realm. New Age/Pantheism:  Pantheism is a very old religion/philosophy, whose basic concept is that God is all, and all is God. Strict pantheism would view the entire universe as one living being, of whom we are all a part. Today’s New Age teachings don’t focus much on inanimate objects. Yet the concept is that mankind is already a part of “God,” we just need to realize and embrace our divine “nature.”

Some 30 years ago, the New Age Movement brought forward its agenda publicly with the popular Star Wars movie series. The power of the force was unknown to many at the time, yet it is central in pantheism and the New Age. The “force” is really referring to the same god-spirit that exists in each person, temporarily separated only by the limited ideas of the physical body.

New Age teachers channel “spirit-guides” which give to them direction and revelation. Many of these spirits claim to be Jesus, or Christ, or God. To any who know the Word of God, the fruit of these teachings and claims will be obvious. Yet today, many professing Christians investigate no further when someone claims belief in, or revelation from “God,” or “Jesus.” Terms used by New-Agers may sound Christian, but their beliefs will not hold up under true Holy Spirit discernment.

In addition to this, many popular evangelical “Christian” leaders are embracing New-Age Bibles and concepts. The “force” has found a home in the teachings of self-esteem proponent Robert Schuller, and his well known protégé, Rick Warren (Purpose Driven Life). Robert Schuller talks about being connected to “the Eternal Creative Force of the universe we call God.” He also then asks followers, “What is the basic, driving force in life?”

Rick Warren studied under Schuler, and over 20 years later asks, “What is the driving force in your life?” The use of such a term is not innocent, for it creates a link to the deceptive world of New Age teachings. Just listen to what some of those teachings say in regard to the force:  “You cannot do it by human will and desire alone. You are to be empowered by the force that creates the universe.” This quote from “Christ” in Barbara Max Hubbard’s book, The Revelation. “What if I am not a “man” at all, but rather, a Force, an ‘energy’ in the universe, that IS the universe, and that is, in fact, All That Is. What if I am The Collective?” This quote from “God” in Neale Donald Walsch’s book Conversations with God Book 3.

In the book of Daniel we find key prophecies regarding the antichrist, or “beast.” Daniel 11:38 says plainly, “But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces…”

Therefore New Age teachings emphasize church attendance; instead of repentance. Because God is within, there is no real sin. It is not only Christians who follow the light, but every way of man is right. Though they claim their God is a “force,” the devil is really it’s one true source.

I would like to thank brother Warren Smith for this information found in Deceived on Purpose, and Reinventing Jesus Christ:  The New Gospel.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. I John 4:1

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Matthew 24:3-5

Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Matthew 24:23-25

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. Proverbs 21:2

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. II Corinthians 11:14,15

Salvation Army:  This is not only a helps organization, but an actual denomination. It’s good to know what we’re involved with! Upon visiting the website CampGifford.org, I read eleven fundamental doctrines of the Salvation Army. Barring any direct deceit, I find these beliefs to be consistent with Biblical Christianity, and essential. The Salvation Army is focused on helping the needy in a material sense, as well as spiritually.

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. Romans 16:17,18

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. II John 9

Satanism:  Hard core Satanists usually join because it appeals to the naturally rebellious flesh. They then get started to be different, and because they are offered power in this life. Yet their “faith” is one of fear; because of the devil’s dastardly double-crosses and punishments.

Some make pacts with the devil to get what they want in exchange for their souls. These contracts actually have no value, but are very binding and intimidating. Apart from Christ’s salvation, every person’s soul already belongs to the devil; no “contract” required!

Satanists are told that Jesus is still chained in Hell, asking why God has forsaken Him. They are told that in the end, the devil defeats/overthrows God, and that they will rule with the devil after this. Experientially, Satanists even now realize this not to be true. The testimony of converted Satanists makes it clear that “spells” cast upon true believers do not work; and in fact, many times they directly backfire on the Satanist!

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. I Corinthians 15:3-8

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Revelation 20:10

Scientology:  Believes that man is an immortal spiritual being. There is no specific doctrine to follow, and no requirement for belief on faith. Truth is relative, or subjective, to each individual observations and experience. Scientologists believe the basic command in life is to survive (evolution). Therefore there is strong emphasis on vitamins and good nutrition, the removal of toxins, and being free from the influence of all drugs; which are believed to inhibit ability. Scientologists also believe in reincarnation, and that many truths can be learned from past lives. Information found through AllAboutReligion.org.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. I Timothy 4:8

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:5,6

Seventh Day Adventist (SDA):  Believe heavily in the observance of the Sabbath as practiced in Judaism according to the Old Testament instruction (6 pm Friday until 6 pm Saturday).

While claiming to accept the Bible as God’s perfect Word, it seems SDA’s are blinded to many parts of it—parts that invalidate their beliefs and practices! The catalyst event which ultimately inspired SDA was a false prophecy by a Reverend William Miller; he had a large following, and was convinced of Christ’s return on October 22nd, 1843.

Even the prediction was an evil fruit, in that Christ plainly stated that no man would know the day or hour of His return (Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32). This man was also a false prophet, and should have been turned away from. Yet one of his “disciples” tried to make sense of what had happened, so that the prophecy would still seem credible (instead of repenting). That person was Ellen G. White, who rose up as a false prophet to explain the false prophecies. Along with her husband, they co-founded the SDA’s.

She explained that instead of returning, Christ had instead left His role as intercessor; and now is beginning the judgment. All who would be saved now must adhere to the teachings of Christ’s end-time church (SDA), and the revelation given to God’s last true prophet (Ellen G. White).

Among these teachings are the adherence to most of the Jewish traditions given in the Old Testament, such as the dietary laws—hence many SDA’s become vegetarians. Strict observance of the Sabbath is an absolute, needful practice for salvation. Though professing to believe only in salvation by grace, other dogmas demand an obedient practice to achieve it (works).

SDA’s do not believe in Hell, but rather in an annihilation of the wicked. Satan alone bears the sin punishment, and becomes the scapegoat. They also believe that Jesus Christ actually took on mankind’s sin nature during His life (thus our Lord was not sinless!); there is also not an assurance of salvation for anyone.

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. Romans 14:4-6

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. I Timothy 4:1-5

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:20

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. II Corinthians 5:17-21

And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Revelation 14:9-11

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Shintoism:  Shinto was once the national religion of Japan. It has no written doctrine to follow, but is defined as the “path of one’s heart.” Some 60 million people practice Shinto, and there are some 80,000 Shinto shrines in Japan.

Shinto believes that the native land of Japan is divine. This led to the belief in their emperors being direct descendants of the gods.

There are thousands of gods (Kami) in Shinto, being related to the world of nature—mountains, streams, animals, etc. Shinto and Buddhism are greatly intertwined and similar in viewpoint. These “faiths” represent more of a philosophical way of life than spiritual betterment. The here and now is more important than the afterlife. In practice, Shinto is inclusive of other religions, rather than exclusive. Information found at Kwintessential.co.uk and TheLotusPath.org.

Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. Deuteronomy 5:7-10

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:26

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. II Timothy 4:2

Unitarian:  The Unitarian, or Unity Church actively incorporates the principles of the New Age Movement into its practices and doctrine; although their most important guidance comes from each individual for themselves.

There is a basic belief in the goodness of God, who exists in all things (Pantheism). We are therefore meant to be healthy, wealthy, happy, and loved. Jesus is not God, Satan is not real, heaven and hell are here on earth, and the Bible is not literally true. “Sin” is considered to be a false sense of separation from God. At death, the spirit is reincarnated into another physical body. Every “faith” is therefore embraced within the Unity Church. Info from http://www.bible.ca.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. II Timothy 3:12

Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:1,2

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. John 5:18

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27

Unification Church:  Founded officially in 1954 by the Korean Reverend Sun Myung Moon; followers are often referred to as “moonies.”

Rev. Moon has officially declared that he is the 2nd coming of Christ. God is not seen in a trinity aspect, but in male-female aspects; the Holy Spirit representing the female.

According to Moon, mankind died spiritually due to an affair Eve had with Lucifer. Physical death was a consequence of pre-marital sex with Adam. When Christ came, he was to restore both the spiritual and physical fallen aspects of humanity. To do this, He needed to marry a perfect woman, and they would become the spiritual parents of all humanity. Jesus was executed prematurely, and did not finish His mission. He did accomplish spiritual salvation, but not physical. Unificationists believe that Christ arose only spiritually, and angels took His body to an unknown location.

Hell is thought to exist for some here on earth; these will also experience it after death, as an extension of their physical lives. Ultimately, the “Hell” on earth will be transformed into the Kingdom of Heaven. They believe our purpose here is to experience the “joy of love.” Paul is said to be the originator of Christianity, but now Rev. Moon’s church works to unite the divided fragments (denominations) of the church.

Mass weddings are a hallmark of this church; couples selected by Rev. Moon or his wife—coupled may decline, however. These wedding ceremonies supposedly cleanse from original sin, and their children can therefore be perfect. Intercourse is not permitted until after another ceremony, several weeks into the marriage.

Reverend Moon and his wife claim to be the perfect man and wife, finally completing Christ’s mission. Articles found at ReligiousTolerance.org and ReligionFacts.com.

Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Revelation 1:7

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Genesis 3:1-6

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. I John 5:7

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30

Wicca:  Many different forms of Wicca exist, often varying per individual or local group. Some Wiccans prefer to think of themselves as nature worshippers, revering the “spirits” in animals, elements, and formations around them; they are in contact with the force.

Wicca, however, is best known as White Witchcraft. It is a “good” kind of magic, invoked for noble purposes. Many, however, readily acknowledge that Wicca is but a gateway into full-blown witchcraft or Satanism.

Wiccans therefore are polytheistic (all is god, or many gods), with a primary “God” pair of male—female. They believe in a progressive reincarnation (spiritual evolution) rather than an afterlife. There is a general rebellion against all types of authority, and often an openness to drug use and free sex—though usually within their group. Ultimately they aim to be totally enlightened, or even gods themselves. Thanks to William Schnoebelen for this information in the book, Wicca:  Satan’s Little White Lie.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. Romans 13:1,2

Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. I Corinthians 6:18

I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Isaiah 42:8

Again, this quick-study is by no means a complete listing of all religions, nor is it a thorough exposition of any of those mentioned. It is good to study other “faiths,” so that we will better understand those we may minister to. But the first study we need to be thorough with is that of our own beliefs, as found in the Word of God. In learning the true Word and doctrine, we will then easily be able to discern the false.

God preserved His Word for us, to lead us into a right fellowship with Himself. All of mankind is equal in God’s eyes; and all are eternally (spiritually) lost, due to sin. To pay for mankind’s sins, God’s own Son Jesus Christ made atonement for us by His blood. Yet it is still each person’s choice to receive this gift, or turn it away.

Therefore true followers of Christ are saved by His finished work on the cross, and the power of His resurrection. No other supposed “faith” can give its followers the certainty of eternal life. The following verses will show you promises of these truths. Matthew 4:4, Psalms 12:6,7, Romans 10:17, John 3:16, Romans 10:13, Ephesians 2:8,9, Romans 8:1, Romans 5:10, John 14:2,3

May the Lord richly bless you in contending for the faith!

WARNING:  To avoid Satan’s snares and deceptions, return to the pure Word of God; which is the King James Bible. Revised translations are not small word alterations meant to bring clarity! Major doctrinal changes have occurred, which will tend to bring doubt and destroy your faith. To follow these new “versions” of the truth, is to build your spiritual house upon sand, and become as the ones reflected in Matthew 7:21-23. Please use this entire passage, Matthew 7:21-27.

Satan means to deceive you into sincerely following his alternate “truth.” You are really being set up to fall, and serve the antichrist.

Pray and seek God diligently in this matter; for time is short. See also our Word of God section and the section on A Sure Salvation vs. Eternal Security.
