The Israel of God: Prophecy and Promises
Note: Within scripture printing, I have often added bold type, underlining, and italicizing; only for the purpose of emphasizing the points being made in this article.
On May 14, 1948, the nation of Israel was re-established after approximately a 2,000 year absence as an independent nation. This incredible event sparked much excitement within the organized church, as it seemed the return of Christ was imminent. We did not discuss it much within the church, but it was commonly accepted to be a prophetic fulfillment from the Bible. Without a close examination, it did seem to be this way. Indeed it was so for me, as well. Due to deeply ingrained teaching, I accepted it without questioning.
Yet the path God led me down has brought me to question the teachings of the organized churches today. These organized bodies have rejected the King James Bible, God’s Holy Word; and replaced it with doctrines that are the commandments of men (Matthew 15:8,9). It has come to serve “another gospel” (Galatians 1:6-9) in regard to both practices and prophecy. Again I would remind you that there is yet a very small remnant of faithful churches remaining; but I estimate that number to be fewer than 2% of all Protestant Churches. And yes, there are still a few true believers left within fallen churches (see Revelation 2:18-25, 3:1-5); yet how long will they remain faithful, when in fellowship with unbelief? (II Corinthians 6:14)
Most of my initial questioning was more basic in terms of life application. Prophecy in general did not seem to be as needful a topic to understand. Yet God tells us that we need every word that He speaks; we need to be able to discern between true prophecies from God, and the counterfeits of the devil.
Recently, a publisher we subscribe to (newsletter) put forth more literature on favoring the nation of Israel as God’s chosen people. It prompted concern for my wife and me, as we knew some of the information to be Biblically false. I had also been running across many scriptures which I believed invalidated nearly all of this piece I refer to. Excuse my vagueness, but I am trying not to gossip!
Needless to say, a more thorough study on my part was soon to be forthcoming. This study involves mostly the prophecies concerning Israel’s emergence as a nation; but also involves the related issues of what God means when referring to the “elect,” or “chosen.”
Remember that the Bible (KJV) is to be our final authority in all matters of faith and practice (II Timothy 3:16,17). What we conclude must be derived from what the Word reveals, or be strongly supported by it. Many times in prophecy, the Lord gives us just enough to be aware of what is happening; without many specific details. For these we must study other sources of information—and follow the Lord by faith, in that which we cannot know.
Satan has contrived many deceits to carry mankind into eternal damnation. One such aspect of this has become known as the Zionist movement. These Zionists work fervently behind the scenes to bring about world domination. As the reference to Zion suggests, this movement is related to God’s chosen earthly region of Mt. Zion and the lands adjacent to it. Unfortunately, it is a movement contrived by corrupt men, and not the Holy Ghost!
As a nation, and as a people, the Jews have rejected Jesus Christ as their messiah. This does not include those who identify themselves as Messianic Jews; this is a very small group which has clung to Jewish tradition, yet has accepted Jesus Christ as the messiah.
After the Jews rejected Christ, they had a problem. What had happened to the Messiah? Why didn’t he come as had been prophesied? New religious teachings began to be added to Judaism to make sense of it. One such teaching states that the Jews must subjugate the world for the messiah to appear. This statement is only meant as a brief overview, and is in no way a complete teaching on the actual doctrine being followed.
Though active for centuries, the Zionist movement really began to have a more global impact by the 1700’s. Through the years they have used many foul means to bring about world domination. Control of world banking is one aspect; the media is another. All of the details are far too lengthy for me to go into for this article. Pastor John Torrell, of EAEC.org, is a far more complete and qualified source of information on this subject. Please avail yourself of his materials and newsletters—they will bless, and help you in understanding; even as they have been of such great benefit to myself.
One goal of this Zionist movement was the re-establishment of Israel as a nation. Suffice it to say, that they did not approach the United Nations and say, “Please.” Untold death and manipulation, behind the scenes, occurred in creating the modern day nation of Israel. Since world domination is the goal, willing cooperation from the global population would never happen—it had to been taken away by treachery, duping the world into surrender. Would God move in this way?
As stated previously, I really had no good scriptural knowledge about this prophetic issue. I thought that while God had said that Israel would be re-established, He didn’t say how. When I began reading John Torrell’s research on the Zionist movement, he kept stating emphatically that this latest version of Israel was not of the Lord. I resisted that notion steadfastly!
Evidence, however, has a way of stacking up which is hard to ignore. Through numerous studies, I kept running across this Israel issue, relating to the Zionist conspiracy. When my scripture reading did take me across related prophecies, I was noticing that things were not lining up with what I’d been taught…
As I have studied God’s Word concerning promises to Israel, and promises to gather them again into their homeland, I have also concluded that the current Israel is not of God. (1) God Himself promised to gather Israel and remove their sin; the current gathering plainly shows works of the devil, and a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Our God would never lie, cheat, murder, or steal to further His Kingdom. (2) Prophecies given in the Word about the gathering of Israel are meant for the millennium. (3) Satan works hard to imitate moves of God, and even to fulfill prophecy in his own way. (4) Promises made to Israel were always conditional. As a nation or people, they have no special favor with God—and even were clearly rejected! (5) The current, false regard for Israel was birthed by the same individuals promoting Dispensationalism. Once you start adding to or diminishing from the Word of God (Deuteronomy 4:2), it’s nearly impossible to stop. Satan loves it!
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10
Certainly the gathering again of Israel is prophesied in the Bible—but my own studies indicate that these prophecies were actually speaking of the rapture, and the millennial reign of Christ. Scriptural prophecy about this issue, when compared to the current conditions of the world and Israel, then also considered with the observation of the powers behind the promoting of the Israeli state; all combine to make plain that the re-gathering of God’s people is not what has happened with the nation of Israel today. Also, the Jews/Israel have rejected Christ as the messiah—which is necessary for salvation. God has rejected them as a people, but will gladly receive the individual Jew who repents through the blood of Jesus Christ.
It should be beyond question that God’s promises are always conditional; they require us to obey in faith. When we walk in the light of God’s truth (the Word; KJV), we will be blessed (James 1:25). When we pursue after fleshly lusts, disregarding God’s instructions to the contrary, we will be cursed (see Deuteronomy 28:1-14 for blessing; verses 15-68 for curses). Simply put, we must continually walk after the Spirit, and not the flesh (Romans 8:1,14).
We even find conditions given even in the Ten Commandments. Just look at Exodus 20, in verses 5 and 6; “…I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.”
So then even as individuals or groups are not blessed unconditionally, neither are curses unconditional. As an example, we find a great curse upon the Ammonites and Moabites in Deuteronomy 23:3.
An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever: Deuteronomy 23:3
Yet as we find with Ruth, God will not cast away any who turn to Him. Ruth submitted to the Lord and was blessed—it was through her lineage that Christ came into the world to redeem us (Ruth 2:12, 4:13,17). Jesus was of the house of David.
Keeping these things in mind, let us then go forward to the promises concerning Israel. Since this really begins with Abraham, let’s start with promises made to him.
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Genesis 12:1-3
Pretty straight forward promises of blessing/cursing, but are directly for Abraham—as he obeyed the Lord by leaving his home country. It also states that all families (not only Jews) of the earth would be blessed in Abraham. That is to say, implied, that they will be blessed when they abide in the ways of Abraham. Obviously, the great majority of mankind will not receive salvation—therefore this isn’t what is meant by “in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” You will see that this is an early prophecy about how God will eventually reach to all mankind for salvation because of Abraham.
For I know him (Abraham), that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. Genesis 18:19
Here the Lord reaffirms His promise to Abraham. Notice how it states that Abraham “will command his children and his household…and they shall keep the way of the Lord…” The term household is separate from “children;” therefore this is also an inclusion of other peoples besides Jews.
See also the conditional promise God makes here; “…they shall keep the way of the Lord…that the Lord may bring…that which he hath spoken…” So we can see here that the promises given, even early on, depended upon faithful obedience.
And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Genesis 26:2-4
God is repeating the promises to Isaac which He spoke to Abraham his father. But why did God promise Abraham, and earnestly desired to fulfill those promises?
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Genesis 26:5
Throughout the Bible history, we have seen Israel struggle with sin and its consequences. The mature generation of those who came out of Egypt died in the wilderness for their faithlessness (over 40 years). The book of Judges gives continual accounts of Israel’s sinning and repentance. God’s supposedly “chosen” people were handled very harshly for their sins!
Yet it was through Solomon that Israel reached its height of glory. The house of the Lord was built, and Israel had rest (no wars) on every side.
God had chosen Solomon to be king, above all the rest of David’s sons—so we remember that this was God’s choice, and not a “mistaken” selection by His people.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. II Chronicles 22:9,10
And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. II Chronicles 28:5
Yet even through his father David, Solomon received this prophetic warning;
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. II Chronicles 28:9
God appeared to Solomon twice, and richly blessed him during the first half of his reign. With Israel, they went as their king would go—with God or against Him! At the second appearance to Solomon, the Lord spoke these words;
That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel. But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house? And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil. I Kings 9:2-9
We see then that promises made here to Solomon and Israel were conditional.
Brethren, no matter how close we have been to the Lord, we must continue to walk in the Spirit. God has warned us of this throughout the history in His Word. In this example, we see the powerfully anointed life of King Solomon became lost, because of sin.
But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods. And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. I Kings 11:1-10
Powerful promises and blessings will uphold the believer’s life; but we are continually warned about deception, and falling away. It has always been so, even with those called “God’s chosen people.”
When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it. Ezekiel 33:13
Now read the following, and ask yourself if God has really established present day Israel;
Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance. Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land? Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?... For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through. Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed….And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. Ezekiel 33:23-26…28,29…31
Yet in some circles the lie still persists about consequences for supporting or opposing Israel—and that they are still “chosen” of God. Check out another key example of the conditional blessing of God;
And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war…And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD. II Chronicles 18:3…19:1,2
This passage shows us that Jehoshaphat was actually rebuked for helping Israel! Sinful compromise had separated Israel from God, and He was not about to bless them in their fallen state.
As time went on with Israel, their rejections of God grew more frequent, and deeper. Jeremiah records such a period of rebellion. Even when rebuked by the prophet, they clung to their rebellious ways—justifying themselves rather than repenting. The Lord actually instructed Jeremiah not to pray for His people; He would not hear those prayers (example Jeremiah 7:16). Just look at their response to the Lord’s rebuke;
As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men? Jeremiah 44:16-19
Even in a merciful deliverance of Israel, the Lord indicates that the time of “casting off” will come in II Kings 13:23
And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet. II Kings 13:23
The Jews’ rejection of God becomes complete through the life of Christ. Jesus states it point-blank upon the “triumphal entry” to Jerusalem;
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. Matthew 23:37-38
We can also see the continued rejection of the Messiah during the crucifixion sentencing later on.
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Matthew 27:22-25
Jesus forgave the multitude for crucifying Him, but they still needed to believe on Him to be their Savior. No matter how much God loves us, there is but one way for salvation.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life…He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16…18
Of course, most of the disciples were Jewish! And it is to these people that the message of salvation was first presented. There is an overall extreme resistance to Christ, and Jews from different areas continued to reject Jesus as the Messiah—and in turn, were “given up” on.
But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. Acts 13:45-48
And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. Acts 18:5,6
In short, all who now believe in God through Christ are Abraham’s seed. God uses the Apostle Paul to explain the truth of the matter in the book of Romans. We’ll go there in a minute, but there are a few other passages alluding to the same principle;
Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. Acts 13:26
Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. Galatians 3:6-9
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:26-29
For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. Hebrews 8:8,9
So we may conclude that we believers today are counted to be Abraham’s seed, or the “Israel of God” (Galatians 6:16). Please see also Ephesians 2:11-19 as another account of how the Jews (circumcision) and gentiles (uncircumcision) are one body in Christ Jesus alone.
The book of Romans deals with this subject extensively. This subject must be important for scripture to go over it in such detail. We begin to review this in chapter 4;
And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith…Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, Romans 4:12,13…16
Even more detail and clarity is revealed later on. Let’s look at Romans 9:3-8;
For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Romans 9:3-8
V. 3,4: Paul is lamenting for his brethren (Jews), for they have not received salvation. But he confesses that the Israelites have been adopted (by God), and received the covenants and promises of God.
V. 5: These Israelites were the fathers of faith, and through their lineage Christ came into the world.
V. 6: The difference begins to come in here, where it is stated “they are not all Israel, which are of Israel.” In other words, true Israel is a spiritual condition rather than one of heritage or geography (John 4:21-23).
V. 7: Here it is made clear that Abraham’s physical seed are not all automatically God’s children.
V. 8: This is the conclusion of the matter, that fleshly heritage does not equate with being God’s children! Children of the promise (saved through Christ) are counted for the seed (Israel).
Chapter nine continues later with more explanation…
What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: Romans 9:22-27
God is making it clear that though a remnant of Israel will be saved, the Jews as a nation or people have been rejected—salvation being passed on to the Gentiles. We see this plainly in verse 26;
And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Romans 9:26
And in verse 27 it indicates that though the Israelites will be incredible in number (population), only a remnant (small portion) shall be saved. Here is the sum;
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Romans 9:30,31
We continue on somewhat in Romans 10:1-3;
Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Romans 10:1-3
In verse one Paul is praying that Israel MIGHT be saved. They are not special or favored so that salvation through Christ isn’t necessary. Unless Israel/Jews submit to God on His terms, they are lost. This is in fact the sum of verse 3, that “they (Israel)…have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”
Chapter 11 begins by re-affirming the idea that a remnant of Israel (the nation/Jews) will be saved, of whom Paul is one. Verses 17-24 compares fallen Israel and true believers as branches on an olive tree; through parable, showing that the natural branches (Israel) were broken off, that we might be graffed in by faith—yet reminding us that those natural branches can still be graffed in again.
By witness of the Holy scriptures, we should realize that true believers in Christ are considered to be the Israel of God, or children of Abraham. Therefore all instruction, promises, or prophecies directed to Israel or Abraham and their seed, need to be carefully considered as to how to apply them. We must “rightly divide the Word,” to determine when such scriptures apply only directly to Abraham/Israel, or when they apply to all believers. The context for each passage will provide the best guidance.
So now we will look at numerous prophecies which show that God will return Israel to their own land. We can now look with a fresh perspective, realizing that any prophecy spoken for Israel could be referring to us! We will find such leading through careful examination of each passage, and weighing it with respect to what the Bible reveals as a whole.
Let’s start with prophecies about World War III. It is commonly taught that Russia will move against Israel, and will be defeated. The prophecies concerning Magog and Gog in Ezekiel chapter 38,39 serve as the backdrop for this incorrect supposition. These 2 references are taken grossly out of context for the overall passage of scripture in which they are found; and also separated from other Bible references which contradict this view. This is yet another example of wrongly dividing the Word; as dispensational doctrines typically do.
First of all, the lands referred to as Magog or Gog do correspond to present day Russia. By looking up a referral to the ancient references of Magog or Gog, you will find that it is the land area north of the Black Sea. Only Russia occupies that area. But according to common teaching, the referenced war in these chapters takes place prior to the rapture, the tribulation, and the rule of the antichrist. Therefore this supposed war would be an earmark event; showing just how close we are to Christ’s return.
The Word of God is much more clear about this matter than many suppose—showing just how destructive it is to “add to or diminish” the words God has preserved for us (Deuteronomy 4:2). As we approach the end of time as we know it, the Bible shows that there will be three large wars of notoriety. Small wars are not spoken about specifically, except to note that there will be plenty of them (Matthew 24:6-8). The three major conflicts to look for are World War III, Armageddon, and the Final Conflict. I have never heard this last war referred to in such a way, but this is actually the war spoken of in Ezekiel chapters 38,39.
Some terms should be clarified before continuing. It is common to refer to the last seven years of history (as we have known it) as The Great Tribulation. It should be plainly understood that the Word of God (KJV) NEVER outlines a clear, seven-year period. It also does not use the term, “The Great Tribulation.” This common term has been pushed in corrupted Bible versions such as the NIV. One such perversion is found in Revelation 7:13,14;
And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Revelation 7:13,14
Corrupt Bible versions often add the word “the” in front of the term great tribulation in verse 14. Therefore, corrupted versions steal the promise of God to honor all true believers, by relegating it to only some. Every Christian endures persecution or tribulation (John 16:33, II Timothy 3:12), and will be comforted and/or rewarded (spiritually) for their obedience.
In regard to the “seven year” period, it is never specifically noted as such in the Bible. When the book of Revelation refers to the time frame, a period of 42 months (3.5 years) and 1,260 days (3.45 years) are mentioned back to back in chapter 11:2,3; the two times are so close in length, and so closely mentioned, that they are often assumed to be consecutive (back-to-back). Then chapter 13:5 speaks of the beast (antichrist) continuing in power for 42 months (3.5 years).
If you assume that the times mentioned are consecutive, running one after another, this is approximately a seven-year period. But what if the times overlap? What if there is a gap between these time periods? God doesn’t tell us; He wants us to watch, and be ready (Mark 13:35-37).
Others have made the mistake of calling a week in Bible prophecy as equal to a year (such as the 70 weeks of Daniel). I find no such certainty within the Word of God for that—it is an assumption. When scriptures like Psalms 90:4 and II Peter 3:8 state that with the Lord a thousand years are as a day, this certainly won’t line up with the one week = one year theory! Brethren, we walk by faith; let’s let God bring us up to date on His timekeeping methods when we meet Him!
Please follow along in your Bible for the complete view from God’s Word.
We find World War III in Revelation 9:13-19; it is from the sixth angel sounding his trumpet. Verse 15 tells us that one-third of mankind will die (presently 2.25 billion). In verse 16 we read of a 200 million man army. Even 40 years ago, China boasted that it could muster an army of this size. Yet it could be a combination of China and its allies.
Verse 17 describes “horses”, and verse 18 declares that these were what caused one-third of men to be killed. Out of their mouths proceed fire, smoke, and brimstone; verse 19 states that their power is in their mouth, and tails—tails like serpents (going every which way?).
This description of one-third dying, the large army, and the “horses” which killed, sounds a lot like a nuclear war involving China. Only China has an army approaching that size, and it has nuclear weapons—the only weapon that we know of which could bring about the death of billions. The “horses” described could easily be modern day nuclear missiles. World War III is much closer (possibly 3-5 years) than people want to believe.
The second great war of the last days is known as Armageddon. The river Euphrates is dried up to make way for the “kings of the east,” as the beast (antichrist) gathers his armies together for this battle with God (Revelation 16:12-16), and to destroy Israel. This war is a brief and devastating vengeance from God. Jesus leads His armies from heaven (raptured earlier the same day; Luke 17:26-30), and it is He alone who fights this battle in righteousness. See Revelation 19:11-21 for the whole account!
After Armageddon, the millennial (1,000 year) reign of Christ begins. It is a golden time for the earth, for God Himself will reign among His people in Jerusalem/Israel; and the Devil will be locked away. This is the blessed time often referred to in the Bible, when Israel is gathered back into their own land.
When this millennial reign of Christ is finished, Satan shall be loosed to deceive the nations; Gog and Magog are those primarily mentioned (Revelation 20:9) which fight against “the beloved city,” and the “camp of the saints.” Yes, it is the same nation or land region mentioned in Ezekiel! The Word of God itself gives a confirming prophecy by which we may know the proper time period for this war!
It is just as mysterious to me how Ezekiel 38,39 get separated in the first place. As I have studied, it is clear that Ezekiel chapters 34-39 belong within the same prophetic reference.
Chapter 34:11-14 is the promise of gathering the “flock,” and giving them rest. Does Israel today have rest? Are they not under constant threat of attack? God promises that they will dwell safely, and not even have the beasts to fear (34:25,27)! David is prophesied to be their king; a prince under the Lord God almighty (34:23,24; 37:24,25). This would make no sense today, but perfect sense after the resurrection of the rapture!
In chapter 36:2, is this a reference to the beast (antichrist) entering the Holy of Holies in Jerusalem? Daniel refers to the beast also as “the abomination of desolation” (Daniel 9:27), and this time is warned of in Matthew 24:15,16; Mark 13:14. Even so, God promises that they will possess the land (36:12). Please read all listed verses for consideration.
The Lord tells of how Israel sinned, and was scattered (36:17-19). These next verses deserve a detailed look, as we carefully consider the words of God.
And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land. But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. Ezekiel 36:20-28
V. 20: Israel profanes God’s name among the nations they were scattered in, by claiming (falsely) to be people of the Lord! Could this refer to the evil doings of the Zionist movement?
V. 21,22: God still wants His name to be exalted. It is made clear that in what He will do for His name sake, it is not for Israel. They have profaned God’s name wherever they went.
V. 23: The Lord says that He will sanctify His name among the heathen (a Gentile, or non-Jew). This is a plain reference to God’s message going froth among the Gentiles, as found in the book of Acts.
V. 24,25: Another promise of gathering, but to whom? God sanctifies His name among the heathen in verse 23, which means some of them were made holy (through Jesus’ blood only). These are the new Israel which the Lord gathers! Verse 25 even hints at the beginning of baptism for believers!
V. 26,27: Here we find the new heart (being born again) and new spirit being given to God’s people. That spirit is the Holy Spirit which God now gives to His redeemed children. In verse 27 God calls it His spirit that He will put within them.
V. 28: A promise to dwell in the land given to your fathers. We have already seen that Abraham is the father of all true believers; not to those of only flesh circumcision.
In the following verses, God speaks of the final purifying of His people (verse 29 and beyond). But in verse 33 God states that, “In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities, I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.” To me this shows the rapture (being changed in the twinkling of an eye), and then moving into Israel/Jerusalem after the battle of Armageddon. Verse 35 identifies the land as being “like the garden of Eden”; does such a description fit the nation of Israel today?
Ezekiel 37 is fairly well known. Ezekiel is shown a valley of bones, which the Lord brings back to life. As I read this passage, it seemed to me a prophecy of the rapture, and a return to the land of Israel. What do you think of these verses?
Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD. Ezekiel 37:11-14
God again promises to gather His people (verse 21), and declares David to be king (verses 24,25), and that He (God) will live directly with them (verses 26-28)! Brethren, this is in the millennium to come; not here and now!
As we venture then into chapters 38,39, we are given much more detail about this Final Conflict than in Revelation chapter 20. Please read all six chapters (34-39) when you can! Even chapter 38 has some qualifiers as to what time in history this is. Verses 8 and 11 describe Israel as a people that “dwells safely,” and “are at rest,” “without walls…bars nor gates…” Does this sound like Israel today? I worked with a man who had spent 4 years in Israel. He worked in farming, and did all his chores with a machine-gun in tow! Furthermore, as an able-bodied male, he was always on call as a soldier if need be.
It honestly staggers me to think that anyone could read these chapters, and misinterpret them so badly. Yet it is the commonly taught point of view! We so badly need more and more study of God’s Word—ourselves alone, with only the Holy Ghost and the Bible to lean on.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. II Timothy 3:16,17
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. I John 2:27
The good news is that our God defends us in this Final Conflict, and we are not harmed. At some point after all of this is the final judgment, and the coming of a new heaven and earth. For now, however, there is more prophecy to cover…
The book of Isaiah has much to say about the latter days. Chapter 2:2-4 tells of when the Lord will dwell on earth; and swords will be beaten into plowshares—a time of great peace on the earth. Verse 6 also refers to God forsaking His people because of their transgressions.
Isaiah 3:8 again specifies how Jerusalem and Judah have fallen because of their doings against the Lord. This is another great example of God’s conditional promises. Our Lord does not condone sin and rebellion, and will not defend any who pursue a path which opposes Him. The nation of Israel today is not of the Lord, for they have rejected Christ the Messiah. Their foundations didn’t come from God, neither do they walk in His ways.
Isaiah 11:6-16 is yet another forecast of the millennial conditions, and in it (verse 12) the Lord says He will assemble “the outcasts of Israel,…and the dispersed of Judah…” As we have seen, promises made to Israel also mean present day believers—any Jew or Gentile who has received Christ as savior.
Could phrases like “the dispersed of Israel” mean those who were dispersed by Israel? In other words, true believers who were persecuted by those who profess to be God’s people—this thought resonates in agreement with scriptures such as Isaiah 66:5 which state, “…Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the Lord be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.” Ashamed as found in Revelation 6:15-17?
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Revelation 6:15-17
Isaiah 13:6-22 references the battle at Armageddon; the battle that is judgment from the Lord upon mankind. How do we know it refers to this? By cross referencing verses like 13:10 with other consistent prophecies such as Matthew 24:29. Also the statement of “punishing the world” in verse 11. The prophecy against Babylon in verse 19 also matches the judgment in Revelation chapter 18; which is before the millennium.
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Revelation 17:5
Chapter 14:1,2 speaks of setting Jacob, and Israel in their own land—strangers will be joined to them; which are likely those Gentiles which have been saved.
Verse 2 speaks of Israel taking them captive, “whose captives they were. “Is Israel a captive today? Are they not independent? Yet another evidence that the gathering of Israel which is spoken by God is not what happened on May 14, 1948.
14:4-7 tells again of the fall of Babylon, and that afterward the whole earth is at rest! The phrase, “they shall break forth into singing” (after Babylon’s fall), confirms well the account in Revelation 18:20, “Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and the holy apostles and prophets.” God doesn’t leave us guessing about our faith—but we do need to read, meditate, and consider with prayer all of God’s words.
In Isaiah 43:5-7 we find more promise of gathering Israel, described as, “Even every one that is called by my name…” (verse 7). So here also we see that the true house of Israel really means true followers of Christ Jesus, Jews and Gentiles alike. These are all of one faith.
Consider the family born to desolate Israel, found in Isaiah 49. Doesn’t it seem that the following verses are speaking of the new covenant brought mainly to the Gentiles? Decide for yourself!
Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me…The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell. Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been? Isaiah 49:13-16…20-22
Isaiah 56:8 refers to the “outcasts” of Israel, the remnant that is truly saved—and God promises to gather others to them, which is the future calling of the Gentiles.
In Jeremiah we have several passages to view, but must discern properly. There is also some prophecy concerning Israel’s return from captivity in Babylon, such as in 29:14.
Jeremiah 23:2-8 calls for the re-gathering of God’s people (verse 3). This is also the millennial time; revealed by such promises as of no more fear (verse 4), and “safe dwelling” in verse 6. Verse 6 also shows that the Lord will live among them.
30:10: The Lord will save Israel with their seed—they shall be at rest, and not afraid.
31:10: Another promise to gather Israel; no special notes
32:36-40: The “King of Babylon” referred to (verse 36) was current in Jeremiah’s time, but also is a future reference matching Revelation 18. The “King of Babylon” could also allude to the antichrist.
But to gather out of “all countries”, causing them to “dwell safely,” with “one heart and one way;” and that they will fear God forever and not depart—these cannot refer to the current nation of Israel.
Joel chapter 2 begins with the “day of the Lord”—which is darkness, and not light (verse 2, Amos 5:18). It is the account leading up to Armageddon (verse 1-11); and then the time is transformed by the millennial reign of Christ.
We recognize the timetable by verses such as 3,6, and 9. The only other battle this could be is the Final Conflict which takes place after the millennium, but these verses show the difference. When the armies come against the saints, there is no destruction to God’s people (Revelation 20:9). When the antichrist (the beast) gathers his armies together, they do attack Jerusalem. These verses show the attacks having great success, before Jesus comes to prevent any final destruction.
Verse 3 refers to the “land is as the garden of Eden before them (the army); and behind them a desolate wilderness;”. Taken in context, this must only mean that this army is utterly destroying everything in its path. When we come to verses 6 and 9, we observe the successes of this army; which will not happen after the millennium. We also see in verse 10 the description given of Christ’s return (Matthew 24:29,30); and in verse 11 He is accompanied by His army, as in Revelation 19:14.
Verses 18-27 speak of the restoration Christ will bring to the land and His people. But verse 27 concludes by saying that the Lord will live in the midst of Israel—another plain evidence of millennial times.
As we look beyond this section to Joel 2:28-3:2, we find a quick summary of the events to come. Peter testifies of the fulfilling of Joel 2:28,29 in Acts 2:17,18; this is the beginning of the last days. The next verses speak of God’s signs which He will shew, leading up to that “day of the Lord” spoken of earlier. Then it speaks of the Lord saving all who call upon Him, and returning the captivity of His people. The Lord will also be there among them in the valley of Jehoshaphat; Joel 3:2,12,16.
Micah 4:1-13 gives another account of life during the millennium; while briefly alluding to the Final Conflict in verses 12,13.
In Zephaniah 3:13-20 it again refers to the millennium, with verse 20 being the gathering promise.
The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden. Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame. At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD. Zephaniah 3:13-20
Verse 13 identifies the time as the millennium, for the remnant of Israel (true believers) shall not do iniquity or lie. The Lord Himself is also dwelling in their midst (verse 15,17).
The book of Zechariah is very strong with last days’ prophecies, it is the last book we will look at in regard to the re-gathering of Israel.
In chapter 1:16,17, the Lord pledges that He will yet choose Jerusalem, and return to her with mercies. The choice in these verses obviously refers to the geographic area, rather than to the people specifically. In 2:4,5, and 10-12 the Lord promises to be in the midst of His people, and their wall of protection.
Zechariah 8 continues another millennium account;
Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. Zechariah 8:3-8
Notice how the Lord will save His people from the east country and west country, and bring them to Jerusalem. By this we see another example of what is meant by gathering “Israel;” it is a referral to any Jew or Gentile who is saved through Jesus Christ.
Chapters 12 and 13 give prophecies regarding Armageddon (12:11), and the conditions surrounding it. Jerusalem is called “a cup of trembling” to all the people around it (12:2), and that all the people of earth shall be gathered against it.
The Lord promises to save Judah and Jerusalem (12:7,8), and fights for them at His second coming (12:9,10). This battle will result in two-thirds of Judah/Israel being slain, with the remaining third returning to the Lord in repentance (13:8,9).
Zechariah 14:3-5 makes it clear that it is the second coming of Christ which will defend and save Jerusalem.
Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee. Zechariah 14:3-5
Jerusalem is then safely inhabited (14:11); and the king, the Lord of hosts, shall live with them (14:16).
As I studied God’s Word carefully, only for what it says, my conclusion is that there is no scriptural basis for assuming that the current nation of Israel was brought about by God. I found that most of my beliefs regarding this issue were placed there by men’s philosophies; they were not founded on the Word (Matthew 7:24,25), and are therefore wrong. We were taught by learned, respected men (James 2:9) and did not question them. These repeated lies grew; layer by layer, until we simply accepted them as true.
So what has brought this about? There are other mistaken elements within our beliefs that have given these lies a more solid footing.
The Bible often uses terms like “chosen,” or “elect” of God. Many have been taught that these terms imply a definition as follows; predestined to be saved. Most likely it was a definition that they were taught to apply. But God’s Word will speak for itself in defining these terms; in the context of each passage, and in being cross-referenced with other scriptures.
Simply put, no “election” or “choosing” by God is sure; it is contingent upon obedience. When one is “elect,” it is that they are nominated toward that calling or office. They are not there yet; and once there, they can be thrown out!
Being chosen is similar in nature; one can be chosen, but cannot attain if they do not agree to the terms. As we have already seen, King Solomon was chosen by God from among many of David’s sons—yet was eternally lost.
Israel’s first king (Saul) was chosen by God, as well (I Samuel 10:24). He was even anointed by God’s Spirit (I Samuel 10:10), but still he fell away (I Samuel 15:23,26). Israel was God’s chosen people (Deuteronomy 7:6, 14:2), but we have already looked at their rejection from God.
Isaiah 41:8-10 reminds us that Abraham’s seed are chosen; but we now know that Abraham’s seed are those who walk by faith in Christ—the physical nation of Israel was rejected!
Jesus chose all twelve disciples, including Judas Iscariot who betrayed Him—and was lost. Romans 9:17 shows us that God even chose to raise up Pharaoh, to bring glory to His own name (Isaiah 42:8).
In regard to the term “elect,” Isaiah 42:1 prophesy’s of Christ as God’s elect; Isaiah 45:4 calls Israel God’s elect, yet they have fallen away.
Matthew 24:24 warns about false Christs and prophets deceiving the elect. Why would Jesus warn us if it isn’t possible?
We read in Matthew 24:22 and Mark 13:20 about the Lord shortening the last days for the elect’s sake. Jesus states that otherwise, no flesh would be saved; immediately following are warnings about deception. I believe that these days will be shortened for the elect’s sake, because otherwise all would be deceived and lost. What does it seem like to you?
For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. Mark 13:19-23
While there are numerous verses which use a form of the word elect (27), here are two which directly put it in the right framework.
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. II Timothy 2:10
Why would these words apply, if being “elect” meant that you are eternally secure?
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: II Peter 1:10
To be called or elect is not an automatic admission into heaven; we still must obey (read II Peter 1:4-10).
Please see also our section on Eternal Security for more information. But consider the following verses which show that we must be diligent in our walk with Christ; Matthew 7:21-23, 13:20-22, 18:21-35, 25:14-30, Romans 11:21, I Timothy 4:1, II Timothy 4:2-4, Hebrews 6:4-6, 10:26, II Peter 2:18-21, Revelation 2:5, 2:16, 3:3,5, 3:16.
Our God is awesome! He continually, faithfully shows love and mercy to all those who seek Him. But He is also holy and just in all His judgments. We can see, dozens of times over, the Lord’s great longsuffering with Israel. So often did they rebel, only to have God send them prophets to call them back. God never, at any time, gave Israel or the Jews unconditional favor. He did not do so with them, nor will he with us (Hebrews 13:8).
Yet if we walk after the Spirit, our salvation is sure!
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. I John 1:7
Remember that Satan tries to imitate God’s moves, in order to deceive (and destroy!). Our adversary knew of promises in God’s Word, and created his own false Israel. Few churches today have or believe God’s Word (KJV), so they have no way to fight lies or discern truth. But now you know!
It is also neat to find so many promises of the millennium within God’s Word—this God did in love, to give us hope (Romans 8:24). These last days will be the most terrible times the world has ever seen. The Lord is saying to us, “Hang in there! I will save you (Luke 21:28)!” There is a silver lining to the dark clouds that are slowly covering us…
Please remember that God loves the Jewish people, and that a small remnant of them have been saved. But also be aware of what the Word of God has to say about salvation, and the present day nation of Israel. Apart from receiving salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ, all of mankind would be eternally lost because of sin. Stand on the truth in God’s Word.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Matthew 7:24,25
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31,32
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. John 12:48
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. Revelation 19:12,13
WARNING: To avoid Satan’s snares and deceptions, return to the pure Word of God; which is the King James Bible. Revised translations are not small word alterations meant to bring clarity! Major doctrinal changes have occurred, which will tend to bring doubt and destroy your faith. To follow these new “versions” of the truth, is to build your spiritual house upon sand, and become as the ones reflected in Matthew 7:21-23. Please use this entire passage, Matthew 7:21-27.
Satan means to deceive you into sincerely following his alternate “truth.” You are really being set up to fall, and serve the antichrist.
Pray and seek God diligently in this matter; for time is short. See also our Word of God section and the section on A Sure Salvation vs. Eternal Security.
